As the crisp autumn air settles over the Blue Ridge Mountains, we are thrilled to celebrate the last, but certainly not least, the harvest of 2024 at Ankida Ridge Vineyard: our beautiful Gamay. Nestled in the heart of “Pinot Country,” Ankida Ridge is known for its mountain-grown fruit that thrives in our unique terroir, and this year’s Gamay is no exception.
Our 2024 Gamay harvest promises to be special. A portion of our grapes will be crafted into a nouveau-style wine using carbonic maceration, a traditional method that creates a light, fresh, and fruity wine with minimal tannins. This style allows the vibrant character of our mountain fruit to shine through, making it a perfect pairing for the upcoming holiday season.
However, the majority of our Gamay grapes will be set aside for something even more exciting: a rich, complex cru Gamay. Aged in the barrel, this wine will develop beautifully over time, showcasing the depth and elegance of our vineyard’s unique location in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The cool mountain climate and rocky soils contribute to a wine that is both refined and expressive, with notes of bright red fruit, earthy undertones, and a delicate minerality.
